Rive Gauche is located inside Baur au Lac. The restaurant has a casual feel to it, but presents an interesting place to dine for the evening. There is low level lighting and hip lounge music in the background creating a nice atmosphere.

While browsing the menu we enjoyed a glass of Prosecco Millesimato Dry, Bosco del Merlo, Italy, 2014 as an aperitif, a soft and elegant Prosecco that prepares the palate for tasting.

We ordered a bottle of Cabernet Sauvignon Starmont, Marryvale Vineyards, Napa Valley, USA 2009 for our table. A wine with lovely strong aromas of plum and cherry.

To begin we ordered the Pulpo Carpaccio with Avocado Tatar. A beautifully presented dish, the Tatar was smooth and delicious. We also ordered the Marinated Salmon on Cucumber Carpaccio, with Tartar of Tuna. Another delicious dish, well-presented and very enjoyable.

"The service was faultless, and the food was superb."

For our main course we opted for the Marinated Lamb Chops, which was tender and flavoursome, exactly how I enjoy Lamb. We also ordered the Grilled Fillet of Sea Bass on Stewed Carciofini and Olives Taggiasche. The fish was cooked to perfection. We added sides of New Roasted Potatoes and Sautéed Mushrooms to complete our main courses, every dish we ordered came out looking and tasting equally as good.

After browsing the dessert menu we chose the Tahiti Vanilla Creme Brulee on a Rhubarb Compote, with Sour Cream Ice-cream. A lovely dessert, not too sour - just right. We also sampled the Dark Chocolate Tarte with Caramelized Hazelnuts and Peanuts, with Caramel Ice-cream. Another indulgent and rich dessert that rounded off a wonderful evening.

I would recommend an evening at the Rive Gauche without hesitation. The service was faultless, and the food was superb.
