During a recent trip to Devon, we decided to take a much-needed, secluded break at Hotel Endsleigh, which can be found located near Tavistock, in a hidden location on the edge of Dartmoor National Park. Hotel Endsleigh is owned by the delightful Olga Polizzi - one of the most famous names in the hospitality industry, and of course, the interior design scene - so we knew we were in for quite the delight.
As we arrived at Hotel Endsleigh, we were taken aback by the beauty of the property itself. Nestled into the English countryside, its setting is most desirable, however the imposing beauty of the building really took our breath away. It embodies quintessential British architecture, being an 1811 Regency shooting lodge. Set in 108 acres of land, next to the River Tamar, Hotel Endsleigh is the perfect destination for a peaceful break.
When we arrived, we were greeted warmly and efficiently, checked in and shown to our room. During our stay we were lucky enough to stay in Hotel Endsleigh’s latest addition titled: Suite 20, The Stables.
“Overall we were highly impressed with our stay at Hotel Endsleigh.”
The entrance to this suite starts from the front door in the stable block, which takes you up your own private staircase. Upstairs you will find a separate lounge area complete with a dining table and chairs, a wonderfully comfortable sofa and arm chairs, as well as a coffee table. The suite boasts an abundance of art and ornaments. There is also a landing area at the top of the stairs, where a large desk and chair can be enjoyed should you need to catch-up on any work. The bedroom offers a large king size bed, which takes centre stage, as well as a huge built in wardrobe, that is more than spacious for those staying for any length of time.
The bathroom which of course, is a room in its own right - really is huge with no expense being spared here. His and hers wash basins are a real treat, as is the large free standing bath tub, along with the sizeable walk-in drench style shower. The room is complete with stunning Victorian-style towel rails, an old school dustbin, and an abundance of thick fluffy white towels.
In terms of things to do, exploring the hotel’s vast gardens and grounds has to be top of your list, but there are plenty of local walks and areas of interest to see nearby. We thoroughly recommend a good stomp across Dartmoor, followed by afternoon tea that can be taken in one of Hotel Endsleigh’s beautiful and various drawing rooms.
If it’s a more substantial meal you’re looking for, you won’t be disappointed with the restaurant - The Restaurant - which can be found located in the original dining room. Serving up delicious dishes for breakfast, lunch and dinner, we highly recommend you book in for at least one meal during your stay. Trust us, it will not disappoint.
Overall we were highly impressed with our stay at Hotel Endsleigh. Everything from the setting to our gorgeous room and the service was faultless. We simply cannot wait to return and explore more of this hotel, which is as interesting as it is beautiful. Hotel Endsleigh is the sort of place where you would feel as at home in a pair of wellies as you would in formal dinnerware, and for us, this makes for a relaxing and versatile stay in the English countryside. What more could you want from an English break?
