Located in Surrey Hills, Sydney, Nomad is a great find, it's a restaurant with a very local atmosphere. It's warm and welcoming with fabulous interiors, albeit a slightly industrial look, and an interesting and slightly unusual menu. But we loved how unique and unusual Nomad was, and it gets the thumbs up from us. It's a busy place, so reservations are essential.
To begin we ordered Moroccan Beef Tartare, served with Spiced Chickpea with Egg yolk. A dish packed with flavour, and superbly presented. We also ordered the Nomad Jersey Milk Halloumi, with Heirloom Tomato and Oregano. Another enjoyable dish, the bar was set high early and we looked forward to ordering our main courses.
"We had an excellent evening of dining."
For our main dishes, we ordered Lamb Shoulder, which was a generous and tender serving of lamb, with Spiced Beetroot, Pomegranate, and Hazelnut Dukkah. This dish had a wonderful blend of flavours, I was happy to send the plate back clean. We also ordered their Scampi dish. As the dish was brought out we were impressed with the attention to detail with the presentation, and the taste didn't disappoint. It came served with Israeli Cous Cous and Squid Ink. We ordered sides of Brussel Sprouts, BBQ Cauliflower with Almond Tarator and Manchego, This was an interesting side, but I'm not sure I would order the BBQ Cauliflower again.
We shared a bottle of Jauma 'Birdsey', Cabernet Franc, McLaren Vale SA, 2014 throughout the evening. A sweet and dry cherry wine, with warm herbal notes. It worked well with our chosen dishes, and also as a standalone wine to sip at the end of the evening. We had an excellent evening of dining, and would happily return to sample some more of their interesting menu options.
