On our transatlantic flight from London Heathrow to Miami, we chose to fly with Virgin in their premium economy class. Although a little more expensive than economy, premium economy is far less expensive that business class or first class flights, and offers similar benefits that made our flight far more comfortable.
The premium economy service comes with many benefits, including the ease of check in. Premium economy has it’s own dedicated check-in, reducing check-in time and making the process far less stressful. We were also pleased to find that we benefitted from priority boarding and fast-track luggage services when we arrived.
"Premium economy is certainly worth the extra expense."
Another benefit of premium economy is the extra leg space. Although not as roomy as first class, the extra few inches made all the difference during our long flights, making it easier to get comfortable and stay comfortable. The leather seats with headrest, legrest and lumbar support also aided our in-flight comfort.
During our flight, premium economy’s added entertainment features were a blessing. Situated in the back of each chair, each passenger has the use of their own screen. We had access to the latest films, music and games.
The dining experience within premium economy was also noticeably better than that of regular economy. Rather than fighting with plastic cutlery, we enjoyed a civilised meal with china dishes, a linen tablecloth and stainless steel cutlery. We were even offered a choice of a variety of wines and an after dinner liqueur. Premium economy is certainly worth the extra expense.
