Il Bacaro is an intimate Italian restaurant situated in the central business district of Melbourne. The restaurant offers lovely cosy surroundings, with a clean and modern décor, and an authentic Italian feeling. The food is delicious and well presented, and we had a wonderful evening.
We enjoyed a bottle of Castellare di Castellina Chianti Classico during our evening. It was a lovely Italian wine, with a strong body and a very elegant delivery.
To begin we ordered the Baby Globe Artichokes, Porcini Mushrooms, Broadbeans, Goats Curd and Quail Egg. This was a lovely light dish, the curd and quail egg is a superb combination. We also ordered Tuna Crudo, with Cucumber, Broccoli Rabe Puree and Crispy Buckwheat. Equally as delicious, we really enjoyed the Tuna which was perfectly complete with the Crispy Buckwheat.

Moving on to Pasta, I ordered the Spaghettini with Moreton Bay Bugs “Olio Visadi”, Garlic, Chilli, and Rocket. A classic dish, and executed perfectly. My partner ordered Toasted Semolina Tagliolini, Jerusalem Artichoke, with Truffle Emulsion and Egg Yolk Bottarga. An interesting dish, the truffle emulsion and egg yolk was irresistible.
For our secondi course I ordered the 350g Wagyu Rump with Radicchio, Goats Cheese Foam and Seeded Mustard. The Wagyu was full of flavour and prepared perfectly. We also ordered Suckling Pig with Cauliflower, Black Pudding and Almonds. Another superb dish, we were more than impressed with every dish leaving the kitchen. We added sides of Potatoes with Marjoram, Pecorino, and Garlic. As well as a serving of Sautéed Spinach with Garlic and Parmesan.
Moving on to dessert we ordered Camomile Panna Cotta with Poached Quince and Honeycomb to share, the Panna Cotta was delightful and I had to pinch myself thinking we were perhaps in Tuscany. We had a wonderful evening of dining and enjoyed every dish.
