Located in the beautiful quaint town of Malton is the Talbot Hotel. It’s around 20 minutes from York city centre, and easy to access via most forms of transport. The hotel occupies a historic, Grade II listed building. Steeped in history and providing a unique and wonderful experience as a stay.

We visited during the festive period, and the hotel had put out a magnificent display of decorations and festive lighting. With the showstopper being a beautiful real Christmas tree at the foot of their staircase in the entrance hall. The festive joy was certainly in the air in Malton last Christmas, it was a lovely touch.

“The hotel has a very traditional feel, and a high level of upkeep.”

We had the pleasure of staying in their ‘Fitzwilliam’ suite. It featured a very comfortable 6ft four-poster bed, long draping curtains, and a bath and separate shower. You are treated to exquisite views over the surrounding gardens from the bay windows. It’s a delightful suite, immaculately presented and was a joy to stay in.

The hotel features a James Martin restaurant, where you can enjoy a wide range of dishes with ingredients procured locally from Yorkshire’s finest produce.

There is also a cooking school linked to the hotel located in the town. This is where trainee chefs, or people interested in cooking, can learn how to prepare dishes using primarily local produce. With an emphasis on game, seafood, and seasonal foods, this is worth dropping in on if you are in the town.

Overall our stay was very enjoyable. The picturesque setting in the quaint village of Malton is a superb location. The hotel has a very traditional feel, and a high level of upkeep. All of the staff were most welcoming and helpful. Definitely one to visit, and I would happily return for another stay.
