Tortilla Republic is a Mexican restaurant located on Robertson Boulevard in the heart of West Hollywood. The restaurant provides an ambient dining experience with plenty of buzz, and it’s a great place to go for hearty, satisfying food and cocktails with friends. It’s a casual environment, so it’s also a great place to unwind.

We began with pre-dinner cocktails. I sampled a ‘Pomegranate French 75’, a gin based cocktail mixed with Aviation Gin, Lemon Juice, Pomegranate Puree, Simple Syrup, and Segura Viudas Cava. My partner ordered a ‘Skinni’, which comprised of Herradura Silver Tequila, Fresh Lime Juice, Cointreau, and Organic Agave Syrup. A delicious, sweet drink, not shy on tequila and we would have happily spent the night sampling their cocktails.

To begin I decided on the Ceviche. The dish came complete with chilled Citrus-marinated Swordfish and Shrimp, Fresh Cucumber, Fresh Lime Juice, Cilantro, Mango Salsa, Avocado, and Crisp Corn Tortillas. A seafood dish with a collection perfectly arranged flavours. We also ordered the Three Duck Confit Tacos. Another classic Mexican dish, wonderfully prepared with Sour Cherry Salsita, and Shaved Cabbage and Radish.

“...a fine example of everything that’s great about Mexican cuisine.”

Moving on to our mains we ordered the Tiger Shrimp Fajitas. This dish was served in a hot cast iron skillet and comprised of Sauteed Poblano, Red Onions, Tomatoes, Salsa de Mesa, Crema, Guacamole, and was served with a side of House Rice and Black Beans. A delicious Mexican dish, the seasoning and dichotomy of flavours was superb. My partner ordered the Prime all Natural Tenderloin Steak Fajitas, which was also served with Sauteed Poblano, Red Onions, Tomatoes, Salsa de Mesa, Crema, Guacamole, and was served with a side of House Rice and Black Beans. The steak was cooked to perfection, we can’t fault this dish.

Our chosen wine for the evening was a 2012, Luna Cabernet Sauvignon, Napa Valley, California. A dark wine with blackberry, hazelnut, and black olives, it worked perfectly with our meat and seafood dishes. Tortilla Republic is a fine example of everything that’s great about Mexican cuisine, we wouldn’t hesitate to return.
