Craig’s by name; lavish by nature. There is more than one reason as for why this American restaurant hasn't had an empty table since it opened.

Unusually, we were taken in by the hype, hustle and bustle surrounding the latest establishment of Craig Susser, following his departure from Dan Tana’s. We had heard that getting a table at Craig’s was a challenge unlike any other, unless you were George Clooney (who of course has his own brand of tequila waiting to be served - it’s called Casamigos, and is worth sampling during your visit).

With just one entry point and solid panelled walls, diners are ensured total privacy throughout their visit. Unsure what to expect, we took our place at our highly sought after seats and began to take in our surroundings.

Located in West Hollywood, on the Southside of Melrose and Doheny, this uniquely private 21-table establishment provides its clientele with beautiful interiors, crisp white linen booths, and beautiful food, presented in a manner that not only appeals to the eye but also the most sophisticated of palettes.

“Craig’s restaurant is worth every raving review it gets”

As is tradition in LA, we began with two stunningly prepared cocktails: The Danny Ocean, containing George Clooney’s Casamigos tequila, was combined with bittersweet pink grapefruit juice, cherry liqueur, agave nectar and lemon juice. The R&R, a tantalising vodka based beverage, was created with St Germaine liqueur, red grapefruit juice and a sugar rim. Both were taste sensations.

The evening began with, and continued to deliver, superb, attentive, but non-intrusive service from all members of the front of house. Knowledge of all dishes, including the specials was in-depth and relevant, and persuaded us to deviate off the main menu for the initial course.

The summer salad, a daily special, contained peach, goat’s cheese, toasted almonds, red onion and leaves - a salad that provided plenty of light, delicate flavours, whilst remaining easy to consume. The Ahi tuna tartare was presented beautifully, and was another reminder of just why this hotspot has been so in demand.

After a successful beginning to the meal, and with our expectations increasing by the second, we eagerly awaited the arrival of our mains. Once again, we were not disappointed, as the aroma and acoustics of 8oz filet mignon, with bleu cheese ravioli, demi-glace, and the 14 day dry aged 14oz prime New York steak with sautéed broccoli arrived at our table. Accompanied by the traditional US dish of mac 'n' cheese, and the less revered Parmesan Truffle Fries, we experienced the true modern-age American dining experience. Both dishes were cooked to perfection, with the accompanying side dishes bringing the necessary modern day twists only the finest establishments can deliver.

Don’t be put off by the hype - Craig’s restaurant is worth every raving review it gets. It’s no surprise that a large majority of LA’s finest choose to visit, and we would most definitely return.

With a friendly team, excellent food, and a superb beverage menu, we thoroughly recommend heading to Craig’s on your next visit to LA - if you can get a table, that is.
