The Marylebone Hotel in London is a five-star hotel in the centre of the city. It has a great reputation as part of The Doyle Collection, an enviable location and a lot to live up to. Marylebone is a nice location. It’s a short walk from the shopping and Regents Park and surrounding by nice buildings.

The exterior of the hotel isn’t very inviting, but that changes once you enter. The lobby is welcoming and the staff greet you with a smile. Subtle lighting and contemporary décor conspire to make you leave London behind for a while and just relax.

We had a Junior Suite, which was expensively furnished and a nice place to spend time. It certainly wasn’t the biggest suite we have ever seen, but there was enough room to manoeuvre.

“Our experience at The Marylebone Hotel was entirely positive, but for some reason we left unsatisfied.”

The décor was light, with dark accents provided by the wood furniture and soft furnishings. Everything looked pristine but to my mind fell short of the five-star experience we were expecting. It wasn’t tatty, it wasn’t dirty, it just didn’t work as well as it should.

The bed was large and very comfortable and had a pillow menu for us to choose our resting place for the night. Turndown also left us some fresh cookies, which was a nice touch. The rest of the room had seating, a large LCD TV, and the usual accoutrements you would expect from a five-star.

The bathroom was quite small but still had a separate bath and walk-in shower. The room was spotlessly clean and the towels were lovely and warm as we walked in.

The room seemed well insulated, as we didn’t hear much from either the world outside, or the other guests. That, and the nice bed made our night’s sleep a good one and we awoke feeling refreshed and ready to go.

The rest of the hotel echoed the contemporary décor of our suite. Everything was spotlessly clean, well-appointed and suitable for a five-star rating. The service was prompt and courteous and we were left wanting for nothing.

Our experience at The Marylebone Hotel was entirely positive, but for some reason we left unsatisfied. We would certainly stay there again though.
