Smith & Wollensky is a New York establishment renowned for their Prime Steaks and Seafood. They have opened their first London restaurant just off The Strand. There are a number of different private dining areas on the lower levell, we had a wonderful table in the corner on the upper level. The service was friendly, and their menu had some interesting dishes, along with many steak options and and an impressive wine collection.

We started off with 2 glasses of Canard-Duchene, a fine aperitif offering the perfect balance of authenticity and originality. Moving on we ordered the Seared King Scallops with Butter Bean and Carrot Puree and Bacon. Scallops are easy to get wrong, but these were prepared perfectly, tender and packed with flavour. We also sampled the Burrata and Tomato Salad, a simple dish but very enjoyable, Burrata is one of my personal favourites and this was a delight.

    “We left more than impressed.”

For our main courses, I ordered the USDA Prime Dry-Aged 21oz NY Cut Bone-in Sirloin. There were a number of tempting options on their menu, but I made the right choice as the steak was absolutely divine. It’s hard to put into words how delicious this steak was. It was tender, with just enough juice and definitely a must try. My partner ordered the 8oz Premium Scottish Fillet Mignon, Charbroiled with Au Poivre. Another superb and delicious cut, it was a pleasure to hand back our clean plates. We added sides of Whipped Potatoes, Sautéed Spinach, and Honey Glazed Chantenay Carrots. All of which were well prepared and we finished every last bite.

Our chosen wine for the evening was The Federalist Dueling Pistols Red Blend, Sonoma County, California, 2011. A wonderfully balanced wine, with notes of Black Cherry, Pepper and Spices. Steaks are what Smith & Wollensky do best and we left more than impressed I strongly urge any steak lover to pay them a visit.
