Ham Yard Hotel can be found in London’s bustling Soho area. Having previously dined here before during their opening period we were excited to return to see if the same experience could be enjoyed, and I’m pleased to say it really is just as splendid as when we first visited.

The atmosphere at Ham Yard Hotel was bustling on the night we visited, and was full of fellow diners enjoying their evening. Both the bar and restaurant were full, with not a seat to spare. Ham Yard Hotel is part of the renowned Firmdale Hotels group. We love the interior design of the restaurant, which captures all the usual signature Firmdale design elements we have come to expect. The service is prompt and welcoming, each staff member was friendly and happy to discuss the menu and answer any questions we had about certain dishes.

To begin our evening, we started out with a couple of pre-dinner drinks. I went for the Ham Yard Tonic, which saw a refreshing blend of Portobello Road gin, Campari, St Germain, grapefruit bitters and homemade tonic water. My partner opted for a glass of Pierre Mignon, Grande Réserve, Premier Cru Champagne, which was wonderfully pleasing.

“The steak was to dine for, it packed a fantastic flavour and simply melted in the mouth.”

To start our meal, I chose the cream of mushroom soup, served with focaccia croutons and watercress. This soup was wonderfully earthy and creamy and tasted heavenly. My partner chose burrata with roast pumpkin, hazelnuts and sage, which was a real highlight with the soft, creamy burrata and crunch of the hazelnuts.

For our main courses, we both decided to go for the 10oz Fillet steak along with their beautiful peppercorn sauce. We also added sides of French fries, spinach and mashed potato. The steak was to dine for. Perfectly cooked to our personal preferences, it packed a fantastic flavour and simply melted in the mouth.

As an accompaniment to our meal, we chose a bottle of 2016, SANTUFILI Primitivo Mocavero, Puglia, Italy, which was absolutely delicious and suited our main course very well, being a full bodied and juicy red wine, with flavours of cassis and sweet spice.

We cannot fault Ham Yardl, it was nothing short of impressive and we were only too pleased to have visited once again. We will certainly be returning, and it comes highly recommended by us to anyone looking for a great restaurant in the Soho area of London.
