Located a few steps from Tower Bridge, Gaucho is a restaurant offering stunning views over the Thames and of course the iconic Tower Bridge. If you want to combine fine meat with views over some of London’s most iconic structures, Gaucho ticks these boxes.
The best views are from the window tables on the upper level, so to secure one of these tables book ahead of time. The restaurant is softly lit and has the ambiance for a romantic evening, while the cow hide seats bring some additional character and add a touch of luxury. Gaucho celebrates the cow, with Friesian décor and a steak heavy menu. The meat board is circulated for those who want to be inspired by the menu and to find out more about each cut, which is a welcomed touch, it really is a meat lover’s paradise.
We started the evening with a couple of glasses of Veuve Clicquot, Rose, NV whilst admiring the stunning views and pondering over the menu.
To begin we ordered the Tuna Ceviche with Guacamole. A superb starter with a lovely citrus tone. We also ordered a Poached Salmon Salad with Capers, Black Olives, Radish and Red Onion with an Orange and Lime Dressing. Another splendid starter bursting with fabulous flavours.
“A must visit for meat lovers, you will not leave disappointed.”
For our main courses we ordered the 300g Fillet, which was incredibly tender and juicy. Gaucho much pride in their steaks, and I simply cannot speak highly enough of this dish. The flavour of the Fillet was delectable, this was served with a Peppercorn Sauce on the side which completed my dish perfectly. My partner ordered the 300g Rib-Eye Steak, which was equally as superb. The cut was delicately marbled throughout and the taste was simply divine. We added sides of Fat Chips cooked in Beef Dripping, French Beans with Spinach, Garlic and Cherry Tomatoes, and Roasted Italian Pumpkin with Churrasco Dressing. All delicious dishes, and we enjoyed every mouthful, especially the Roasted Italian Pumpkin.
We were left with little room for dessert but decided to order Lemon Curd Mousse, with Italian Meringue, Blueberries and Pistachios. As well as the Pan Tres Leches, a light sponge soaked in Three Milks, which was simple but certainly satisfying.
Our wine for the evening was a bottle Polignos ‘Los Arboles’, Malbec, Uco Valley, Mendoza, 2014. A lovely, velvety wine with strong fruit notes and perfect for meat. Gaucho is a must visit for meat lovers, you will not leave disappointed.
