We recently revisited one of our favourite hotels, Prestonfield House. This hotel, located just south of Edinburgh, truly is a one-of-a-kind hotel, the likes of which, to date, we have not found anything else that comes remotely close to it. The location of this hotel is simply superb, being outside of the hustle and bustle of Edinburgh, but still close enough to be within walking distance of the city centre itself.
Arriving at Prestonfield House is always quite the experience, as the hotel entrance is through a grand gate, which leads to a long and immaculate driveway which takes you down to the stunning property. Prestonfield House truly does have the ability to take ones breath away.
As we arrived at the hotel, we were greeted warmly and shown on our way to the reception area. Walking into the building, we were once again in awe of the incredible interior design, which really does demand a great deal of attention. I was suddenly taken back to our first visit to Prestonfield House and the feeling of arriving somewhere this special for the first time.
“Everything about Prestonfield House is simply stunning, and we were delighted that it retains its immaculate charm to this day.”
We were speedily checked-in by the efficient reception staff, before being shown to our room; the Lord Provost Suite. This suite was simply stunning, and incredibly striking, with its red velvet lined walls and huge four poster bed. The suite itself offers a separate lounge area as well as two bathrooms. One of our favourite touches of Prestonfield House is that guests are greeted with freshly baked biscuits and offered tea on arrival; a service we were only too happy to take them up on.
We were delighted that the Lord Provost Suite offered wonderful views over the park to Arthur’s Seat from both the lounge and the bedroom, where you can spend a long time admiring the location. The suite also offers a flat-screen TV in each room for entertainment, and a desk with comfortable seating for those looking to catch up on work. The sitting room is a most comfortable and social area where we spent our time relaxing in the beautiful armchairs.
The two bathrooms consisted of a combined shower and bath and single wash basin, complete with an abundance of marble. The second bathroom is particularly handy should you be choosing to spend your time entertaining guest within the lounge itself.
Within the hotel you will find many a room in which to reside for an afternoon or an evening, including the Whisky Room, the Tapestry Room and of course the Dining Room; all of which boast extraordinarily beautiful interior décor. It’s worth noting that Prestonfield House also offers its exclusive Salon Privé experience, which is the ultimate private dining room with just enough space for two guests. It can be found near a stone turret stairway and comes complete with its own personal waiter, just a bell-call away.
Everything about Prestonfield House is simply stunning, and we were delighted that it retains its immaculate charm to this day. It goes without saying that this hotel comes highly recommended by us, and not just for the most comfortable nights’ sleep or delicious food, but also for its staff who are only too happy to help and do so in the friendliest of manners.
