Situated on Piccadilly, The Athenaeum boasts a great central location; just a short walk to Park Lane one way and a short walk to the West End the other way. This privately owned hotel has a wealth of star-studded...
Bovey Castle is a superb hotel and spa resort on Dartmoor National Park in Devon. It is an amazing manor house dating back to the late 19th century that has been painstakingly renovated and sympathetically expanded ever since.
The hotel itself is of a very high quality, but contains none of the stuffiness you would expect of somewhere like this. The atmosphere...
There are good restaurants and there are bad restaurants, there are restaurants with divine food, restaurants with divine views and there are even feel good restaurants that offer an electric atmosphere. Then there are restaurants like Sushi SORA; restaurants which are sort out and not fallen upon, placed few and far between, restaurants that provide more than...
Perfectly situated on the bank of the beautiful River Rhone, the Mandarin Oriental Hotel Geneva boasts both tranquillity and a central location within this vibrant city. The hotel is located close to many popular attractions including the Jet D’eau and St Peter’s Cathedral, as well as the local boutique shops and restaurants. Designed with the location in mind,...
Buddha Bar is a globally recognised name in the dining and bar industry. Having been established in Paris since 1996, Buddha Bar has recently opened its doors in London and displays the elegance and cool interior that is been carried by the name since the Paris restaurant opened.

The Real Critics Guide is a website dedicated to the best luxury hotel reviews and encouraging the best out of the world's Luxury hotels, restaurants and leisure companies through independent critical reviews.
We can help guide you to the places you are looking for and ensure you avoid the pitfalls and if we can help drive up or maintain high industry standards along the way so much the better.
Our reviewers are not chefs, hoteliers, restaurateurs or in the hospitality industry. They are experienced independent travellers and fun seekers who have sampled most of what's on offer, and who know what they want and are prepared to pay for it.
Our aim is to offer straight forward critiques designed more for young professionals, than those that need to know if the caviar is from farmed sources instead of wild, or if a soufflé doesn't have a slight tang of Hollyhocks on a summers morning.
We will concentrate on the things that really matter. How good was the food? How efficient was the service? How friendly were the staff? Is it good value for money? Are the rooms really comfortable? Does it really deliver what's on the label?
Basically the stuff that makes the difference between an okay experience, and a good one.
All our independent reviews are hard hitting, accurate, free from bias and as objective as is humanly possible - these are not advertorials. We are doing this for our readers' benefit and not to massage the ego of the latest top chef, or the newest place in town.
Before I get carried away, I would like to focus briefly on the history of the Greek-Italian Bulgari Group, which is certainly worth noting. Bulgari is actually normally spelt ‘Bvlgari’, with the ‘U’ becoming a ‘V’ as is in the classical Latin alphabet. Although I’m sure the name is completely self-explanatory, Bulgari are most well-known for their jewellery, but have since diversified to product lines including watches, fragrances, accessories and, of course, hotels. The themes throughout the London hotel reflect the...
Part of the Firmdale Hotel Group, The Soho Hotel is as lively and alternative as any of the other Firmdale hotels. But the Soho Hotel in particular has taken its alternative style a little further by introducing an alternative afternoon tea.
The Soho tea is a new addition to the afternoon tea menu and is served in the drawing room. Designed in the typical Firmdale style, the décor is impressive, removing any dull impressions that anyone may have for the term ‘drawing room’.
We sampled the new menu during our visit...
The Lower Slaughter Manor hotel is situated in the picturesque village of Lower Slaughter in the Cotswolds. As beautiful as it’s surroundings, the hotel is extremely grand and impressive from the outside, offering quite the welcoming to every guest who pulls up outside.
The interior is just as grand and impressive, and we admired the traditional features of the interior design as we walked through to the reception. Following check in we were escorted to our suite, which was a garden suite located in the coach house...
Restaurant Sixteen58 is located inside the grand Lower Slaughter Manor in the village of Lower Slaughter. Right in the heart of the Cotswolds, the hotel itself is a wonderful location within which to enjoy the delicious food of Sixteen58.
The restaurant is designed with traditional décor in mind but also features touches of modern day influence. The atmosphere and views into the grounds of this hotel made us feel as though we were somewhere very special.
We chose to sample the tasting menu during our visit to...
The Lower Slaughter Manor Hotel is situated in the heart of the Cotswolds and provides picturesque views to all of its guests. The hotel is also home to a traditional afternoon tea which we were lucky enough to try during our visit to the hotel.
The afternoon tea is served with a glass of Perrier Jouet Champagne, which was delicious and a wonderful accompaniment throughout. We also enjoyed a pot of English breakfast tea during our afternoon tea. Guests also have the option of sitting inside out on the front lawn....
